Student Attendance:
Absences, Tardiness & Dismissal
Absences
Student attendance will be recorded daily. Please call the school by 8:00 a.m. each day if your child will be absent or tardy. If communication is not received the day of the absence, student absence will be marked unexcused. Any student who arrives after 8:00 will be required to sign in at the office upon arrival and will be marked tardy.
Excused Absence
Students are considered to be “excused from school” when a parent or guardian notifies the school about student illness or appointments, religious observances, family emergencies, and funerals. Family emergencies include things such as death or hospitalization of a family member.
Excused Absences Due to Illness
Day 1: Parent/guardian will call school to report illness
Day 2: Parent/guardian will call school to report illness (school protocol is that family reaches out to primary care provider by day 3 of illness if child is unable to return to school).
Day 3: Parent/guardian will call school if the student is still ill. School protocol is that the parent is contacting the primary care provider morning of day 3 of illness to request same day visit and paperwork to support communication with the provider. If no visit is needed per provider, then the parent/guardian must ask the provider to send documentation to the school.
Day 4: Student returns (doctor note received) or parent/guardian calls with doctor update regarding illness with supporting paperwork received upon child's return to school.
If any of the above steps are not taken students absences will be recorded as unexcused.
Appointments
If your child has a scheduled appointment during the school day, parent/guardian must communicate with the school on the day of the appointment. The absence will be recorded as unexcused until the appointment visit note is received. The type of appointments that can be excused include: doctor, dental, eye exam, hearing exam, counseling.
Unexcused Absence
An unexcused absence is considered when there is no contact with the parent/guardian of the student regarding the absence or if the criteria in “excused absence” is not met.
**IMPORTANT END OF DAY BUS NOTE: Please make an adult visible when your K-4 student is dropped off from a bus. The bus drivers have been instructed not to drop off young students without an adult present. If they do not see an adult, they will continue on and then bring a student back to school. The front office will call a parent and then try emergency contacts until a ride is able to be arranged for the student.
